Today I am going to introduce you to a drama called 日本人の知らない日本語. This drama is about a group of foreigners learning Japanese and their Japanese teacher. She is expected to teach the students the Japanese language and social customs. Right from the start she fails big-time. She eventually becomes better as the story unfolds. She begins to understand the needs of her students and also one thing or two about things she is expected to know, since she is Japanese, but obviously doesn’t. Her life isn’t easy with students who seem to know everything better, who are able to speak Japanese very well, and know their Kanji. I don’t want to spoil you so I leave it at that.
As this drama was made in 2010, some of you might already know it. But for everyone else, including me who discovered it today, it is a worthwhile to watch. It is a good way to enter the world of J-drama, it is easy to follow, and it is funny for the most part. As long as you are able to ignore that it is a television drama with stereotypical characters you should be able to learn from it. Counting, 尊敬語 (そんけいご) honorific language, culture, kanji, kitchen tools and appliances, social customs, and other things.
My rating for the episodes 1 to 3: ★★★★✩
